Wittmann Westhofen Morstein Riesling trocken Großes Gewächs 2009

Lobenberg: Helles Steinobst, Pfirsich, Muskat und dabei schon in den Aromen herrlich harmonisch. Sehr mineralisch und mit feinem Stoff unterlegt. Im Abgang Tabak und Renekloden. Eigentlich schon ein legendärer Wein, zumindest in Deutschland. Aber Philipp Wittmann konnte ihm in diesem Jahr mit seiner Hinwendung zur Eleganz noch eine Facette abgewinnen. Bravo! (98+/100)

Falstaff: Very deep, spicy bouquet with perfect fruit and multi-layered minerality. On the palate, silky finesse and persistent minerality with terrific substance and full body, purist, transparent, playful and enormously long, eternally salty. A must! 97/100

James Suckling: Very cool and discrete for this ripe vintage. With quite some creaminess on the mid-palate, this is both concentrated and polished. But it lacks some of the complexity of the 2011 and the stunning fruit of the 2012, which are also both ripe vintages. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. 93/100

Jancis Robinson: Just as in 2008 I perceive a hint of caramel, probably the expression of fruit ripened to perfection. It seems sheer folly to list individual fruit contributions, as there are so many, suffice to say that the trap of exuberant tropicality has been avoided. Despite an abundance of fruit the Morstein is very fresh, zesty and lively. Juicy acidity paired with a salty minerality add another dimension, and for once terms like substance, depth, concentration and endless finish seem inadequate to sum up the sheer class of this wine. 19/20
