Beschreibung

James Suckling zu 2019: Let go of the narrow human world and fall into this expansive dry riesling that busts out of the conventional framework for the grape variety. And that's what makes it so difficult to describe. However, there is certainly more yellow fruit (mirabelle, but also a hint of pineapple) than white (some ripe pear) and the minerality is huge, yet totally precise and delicate. The finish really doesn't want to stop! From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold. 100/100

James Suckling zu 2017: Anything but a fruit bomb, this has gigantic herbal intensity on the nose, then literally breathtaking concentration on the palate and a finish of crystalline purity – words more often used to describe the much sleeker wines from the Mosel. From biodynamically grown grapes. Respekt certified. Gigantic aging potential, but you can certainly drink it now. 98/100

James Suckling zu 2018: Wild yellow flowers blow in a citrusy, salty breeze. Freshly picked nectarines run amok and honeydew melon drips in intensity. Alluring and decadent at the same time with glitzy tension, but ornately spiced stone fruit. The acidity is tempered only by the raw power here. Stoney and tightly constructed, but deep and welcoming. Drink now or hold. 98/100

James Suckling zu 2020: If you have enough patience, this will turn into one of the greatest dry rieslings of the vintage. A tight rose bud in the nose and on the front palate, but then the wine expands in an almost supernatural fashion as it flows over the palate. Staggering minerality at the totally focused finish. From organically grown grapes. 98/100

Robert Parker zu 2017: The 2017 Morstein Riesling GG is deep, dense, fine and elegant on the nose and shows a lot of substance and ripe fruit with integrated iodine. Elegant, juicy and with a fine savoriness, this is a balanced, delicate and yet long-lasting Morstein with stimulating saltiness and fine acidity. It's a great wine, especially at this point in time. 97/100

Robert Parker zu 2020: The 2020 Morstein Riesling GG shows very clear, bright, precise and ripe fruit with fine limestone notes and lots of fresh lemon juice. On the palate, it is slender and precise, very elegant but firm and robust. Overall, it is still restrained and developing very slowly due to the tannins, but it's very long and very promising, which is a pretty good performance for an early-starter vintage like 2020. 96/100

Jancis Robinson zu 2017: The Morstein has always been a flagship Grosses Gewächs for the Wittmann estate and the 2017 is no different. Once again it is very generous in terms of fruit. Mango and pineapple giving it a tropical expression on the nose and peach and apricot put in a strong local presence on the palate. But before you can say fruit salad, a reverberating acidity adds sparkling vibrancy, and a fine peel note brings a subtle bitter-sweet hint to the finish. 18,5/20

Jancis Robinson zu 2018: A warm and rich fragrance adds an unusual but seductive notion of Ambrosia rice pudding to the more conventional aromas of ripe yellow fruit. The palate is packed with sweet and juicy fruit flavours, a hint of exotic spice and well-rounded acidity add subtle accents. Despite its generous character, the Morstein shows great purity of taste and does not lose itself in opulence. 18,5/20

Jancis Robinson zu 2020: The Morstein already impresses visually with a bright greenish robe. The nose is tempted with exotic fruit from citrus to pineapple, complemented by delicate spicy and earthy nuances. Very rich and seductive on the palate in its presentation of peach, pineapple and caramelised orange. Acidity lies very low, which emphasises the opulent character of the taste but interest is raised by spicy and mineral nuances. A hint of clove seems to point at tastefully applied wood-ageing. 18,5/20
