Chateau Angelus 1er Grand Cru Classe A 2003

Lobenberg: Fast schwarz. Drückende Nase nach schwarzen Beeren, auch leicht florale Noten. Im Mund deutlich rauchig vom getoasteten Holz, eine Fülle von weichen Tanninen, aber rund, nicht übervinifiziert. Auch im Mund blumige Töne, schöne Ausgewogenheit, kaum Bitterstoffe, sehr voll, nicht ganz groß, aber sehr stimmig. Der Wein wird Freude machen, einer der besten Weine der Appellation.

Parker: I had this wine from my cellar, as well as at a tasting in Zurich in February of 2015. It is one of the handful of 2003s I bought from the Right Bank of Bordeaux in this vintage. Angelus really nailed the vintage, and has produced a fully mature wine that’s truly strutting its stuff. Dense, bluish/purple, it offers gorgeous notes of espresso roast, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, acacia flowers and a touch of chocolate. It is full-bodied, opulent and seems close to full maturity, as it is evolving quickly. 98/100 (2015)

Jeff Leve: The complex set of aromatics kicks off with smoky cherries, figs, chocolate, espresso, tobacco, licorice, mint chip ice cream, and plum liqueur. Avoiding the often-encountered jamminess of the vintage, the wine offers a sensual, rich, luscious palate experience centered around chocolate-coated cherries, and black plums with salty caramel. The wine is long, concentrated, and showy. No decanting or further aging is required, just pop, pour, and enjoy over a few hours. 97/100 (2024)
