Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Grands Crus Blanc de Blancs Brut Flaschengärung 1997

Decanter: 1997 was not rated as a great vintage, but at the tasting it surprised many of us, and according to Vitalie this is Comtes de Champagne’s style par excellence. A year of frost, hail and heavy rain, but September saved the vintage from being a disaster. Restrained nose with green apple, smokey and gunpowder hint. The palate is broad and intense and showing development with a bitter edge. It hasn’t got the depth of some of the other vintages but it is still precise and delicate. 94/100 (2017)
