Parker: The 2006 Pingus is a spectacular effort. A glass-staining saturated opaque purple, it delivers an other-worldly perfume of smoke, lavender, mineral, scorched earth, and an amalgam of kinky black fruits. Voluptuous on the palate in a measured way, it has superb balance, layered, complex flavors, ripe tannin that is entirely covered by the fruit, and a decade of aging potential. This monumental wine will evolve effortlessly for 10-15 years and offer a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2036. (98/100, 2010)

Vinum: Das Jahr 2006 markiert einen Wendepunkt in der Pingus-Geschichte. Der Einsatz von neuer Taransaud-Eiche wurde von 200 auf unter 100 Prozent reduziert. Das grossartige Ergebnis ist bald trinkreif. Aromen von dunklen Waldbeeren, getrockneten Kräutern, Graphit, Unterholz, dunkler Schokolade und exotischem Gewürz. Im Gaumen massiv, aber perfekt ausgewogen. (18.5/20, 2012)

Jancis Robinson: Currently more marked by oak than the Flor de Pingus – lots of sweet toasty spice and vanilla but with fine dark fruit underneath. Some savoury notes and surprisingly not spirity on the nose given the 15.5% alcohol. Rich, dense, firm and dry and yet still rounded and melting in the mouth. A little warm on the finish. Very very young and a long way to go but, even now, excellent balance of fruit and power and freshness. Lots of spice on the finish. (18/20, 2008)
