Domaine de Chevalier rouge 2015 in 6er Holzkiste

Lobenberg: Dieser Rotwein stand immer im Schatten des berühmten Weißweins aus gleichem Haus, aber vor einigen Jahren wurde hier gewaltig investiert im Weinberg. Der Berater Derenoncourt hat über Jahre viel verändert im Weinberg. Seit 6 bis 7 Jahren ist Domaine de Chevalier Rouge nun fast in der ersten Reihe der Appellation angekommen. Unendlich feine, burgundische Kirschnase, fast nur rote süße Kirsche, etwas Schwarzkirsche darunter, ganz fein und fast schwebend. Im Mund fast reiner Pinot Noir. Süße rote Kirsche, Schwarzkirsche, ein Hauch Sauerkirsche und Schattenmorelle darunter. Feine salzige Schärfe, tolle Länge, intensive Frische, die Augen ziehen sich zusammen, aber das Ganze ist für mich Burgund, oder eher noch pfälzischer Pinot Noir im Stile eines Friedrich Beckers. Diese unglaubliche Feinheit, das macht richtig Freude. Stilistisch ist das ganz anders als viele Kraftmeier, nicht so schwarz wie Haut-Bailly oder Pape-Clément, sondern einfach nur fein, lang und trotzdem mit hoher Intensität. Für Minuten nachhallend. Vor allen Dingen diese wunderbar zarte und doch intensive Kirschfrucht. Das ist der beste rote Domaine de Chevalier den ich bisher probiert habe und ein Highlight auf dem linken Ufer, ohne vielleicht an die 100 Punkte-Liga heran zu kommen. Vielleicht bin ich da aber auch zu vorsichtig, weil das Weingut da noch nie war, aber mir gefällt der Wein unglaublich gut. Diese Frische, diese Pikanz, diese Feinheit, sensationelle Spannung und Finesse. 96-98/100

Suckling: Suave, spicy oak and warm, stony aromas, making immediate interest and giving way to vivid and fresh dark cherries, blackberries and cassis. The palate adds graphite-like, savory cherry-stone flavors amid smooth, velvety tannins. Tangy blackberries through the finish. Impressive. Try from 2020. 97/100

Galloni: One of the stars of the vintage, the 2015 Domaine de Chevalier has turned out even better than I expected. Bright floral notes give striking aromatic lift to the rich, sumptuous fruit. A marvelously complete wine, the 2015 is racy and silky on the palate, yet also has tremendous freshness. Bright red cherry, blood orange, white pepper, spice and dried flowers build into the super-expressive finish. The 2015 has been nothing less than stunning the three times I have tasted it so far. This is a tremendous showing from proprietor Olivier Bernard and his team. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Tasted three times. 97/100

It has a sophisticated bouquet that is more reserved than its peers. It possesses one of the most precise, detailed aromatic profiles that I have encountered from this estate, wonderfully poised with black fruit, incense and cold stone. It has wonderful focus and class. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, very complex with lightly peppered black fruit. What marks this Domaine de Chevalier is the reserve and precision on the finish, a wine that is holding something back for its secondary evolution, a salinity that beckons you back for another sip. What a fabulous, intellectual wine from Olivier Bernard. Expect four decades of drinking pleasure - probably more - given my experience of ancient vintages. Tasted three times with consistent notes. 95-97/100

IWR: The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier is another extraordinary showing from this property in Pessac-Léognan. It is made from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. It opens to stunning aromatics of ripe blackberries and dark cherries which come together with graphite, sweet spices and hints of florals, all underlined by wet stone nuances. On the palate this demonstrates remarkable overall depth and concentration with a gorgeous layered texture and wonderful balance. Everything comes to an end beautifully, with dark fruits and minerals lingering effortlessly on the long, precise finish. A simply striking wine which will have a tremendous future ahead. 95/100

Wine Enthusiast: Barrel Sample. This wine is ripe and smooth, with a concentrated blueberry character. It is a powerful wine with excellent rich fruitiness sustained by dense tannins. 94-96/10Gerstl: Da sind nebst schwarzer Frucht auch feine Ansätze von roten Beeren, was den Duft noch komplexer und raffinierter macht, ein superfeines geradezu erotisches Parfüm. Chevalier hat in den letzten Jahren immer raffinierte Weine erzeugt, der hier setzt aber nochmals einen oben drauf, die Konzentration ist enorm, Leichtigkeit und Verspieltheit sind aber noch eindrücklicher, was der in Sachen Aromatik bietet ist unberschreiblich, das ist spektakulär und raffiniert, ein sinnlicher Traumwein. 19/20
