Chateau Margaux 1er Cru 1966

Decanter: Superbly rich, this is an eloquent argument that there are no great wines, only great bottles (or magnums in this case). While some may overlook the '66 vintage or maintain that this was a fallow period for Château Margaux, few could dispute that this is a sublimely delicious wine, with delicate notes of truffle, smoke and sous-bois on the nose, and a silky, elegant feel on the palate, with surprising substance on the finish. Fully mature, this wine still drinks well and should continue to hold at this level for some time since it has shown no recent decline. 98/100 (2023)
