Tim Atkin: Always among the best wines of Rioja (and Spain), this comes from a 2.4-hectare vineyard in Laguardia, planted in 1945. It’s a super dense, richly textured wine with massive concentration, but it’s not forced or over-ripe. Intensely aromatic, with notes of liquorice and wild herbs, it weaves a spell on the palate too, beguiling your taste buds with supple tannins, sweet oak and  avours of orange zest, Asian spices and plum and blackberry fruit. 99/100
