Weingut van Volxem Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben 2008 (2 Fl.)

Parker: Still marked by fermentative remnants more than were the other Van Volxem bottlings when I tasted them last September, a 2008 Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Alte Reben - from eighty year old vines - cleared off to reveal pungent roux and parsley accents to its aromas of white peach and nut oils. Almost severely concentrated on the palate - with its vibrant acids expressed as fresh white peach - this is less flatteringly creamy than most of its stable mates, and its focused finish of peach pit, wet stone, and herbal concentrates seems to broke no relaxation or -easy drinking.- Here is one van Volxem 2008 that I'd be inclined to set aside for a year or so, although it may have made strides even in the short term since I tasted it. It certainly seems likely to justify following for a decade.
